What should I do if I need to take my child out of school early?

Occasionally, parents may need to take their child home before the usual dismissal time. Parents must get office permission before taking a child out of class. You must sign your child out from the office prior to his/her release from the classroom. Teachers will not release students unless they have been contacted by the office to release a student. We're sure you understand that this is a safety precaution to ensure that no unauthorized person removes a child from the school grounds. We will not allow a student to walk home (early) under any circumstances, and we will not release a student from school to any person other than the parent or legal guardian, unless the school has positive proof that the parent having custody or legal guardianship has given permission for the release. In the event parents are legally separated, the school shall release the student only with the consent of the parent who has custody.

What is the School Tax Credit and how can I participate?

In 1999 the Arizona State Legislature passed a bill allowing taxpayers to contribute up to $400 per calendar year to a public school and receive a state income tax credit for the full amount. The tax credit is available to all taxpayers regardless of whether or not they have a child enrolled in the school. To claim the tax credit, taxpayers must contribute to an extracurricular activity or character education program. Contributions that are eligible for a tax credit go directly to the schools, not to the state. You may designate a specific activity for your contribution or ask that it be credited to the "general extracurricular fund" at the school. To learn whether this contribution will benefit you, please contact your financial or tax advisor. Please call the school office or visit the Union Elementary School District website to obtain a Tax Credit Donation Form.

What immunizations are required for my student to attend Dos Rios Elementary?

Immunization records are required for attendance of any child in any Union District school. As of January 1, 1992, schools are required to forbid attendance of any student who is not meeting the requirements for immunization or exemption from immunization and shall suspend such student pursuant to A.R.S. 15-871-874. We will notify parents of any immunizations that your child needs. Children who have received the necessary immunizations and booster doses in the primary grades require booster immunizations when they reach the junior high school age. We require students entering childcare, preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, and 7th grade to have proof of receiving the Varicella (chickenpox) shot/immunization -OR- provide a history of having had the Varicella (chickenpox) disease.

What are the school bus rules?

Our primary responsibility (for both the driver and the students) is to make the bus ride safe. Therefore, the privilege of our students to ride a school bus is contingent upon their observance of safety rules and acceptable behavior. Students who behave inappropriately and do not follow bus rules are subject to discipline up to and including suspension from all bus riding privileges. If there is a problem with your child on a bus, we will use misconduct forms to ensure proper communication between parents, students, and the bus driver. Please review the Bus Rules and Regulations with your child, and sign and return the form to school.
